The Italians triumph in style
Under the blue sky of Spain, the two best teams in the Mundial '82, Italy and West Germany , competed at the Santiago Bernabeu that both would be the third World Cup history. With a second time at the limit of perfection the Azzurri regained the title that was missing since 1938, while the Germans Italy just have to wait 90 to create the magic trio.
Both teams boasted a myriad of talent in their ranks: Zoff, Bergomi, Gentile, Tardelli and Paolo Rossi a one part, Briegel, Breitner, Forster, Rummenigge and Littbarski other. Ninety exciting, spectacular minutes of football spectators waited and no one was disappointed.
outset
The National Team gave the kick-off and immediately sought to impose their own rhythm to the game. But the German opponents, coached by Jupp Derwall, created the first chance just two minutes after: Littbarski broke on the left and steered a diagonal pass to Klaus Fischer, who walked past to Littbarski. The wing known as 'Litti' shot on goal, but the legendary Dino Zoff blocked the ball with little difficulty.
few minutes later the captain was German Karl-Heinz Rummenigge to be alive in the hearts of the match, got rid of Bergomi and Cabrini in the penalty area and, with a sort of inverted tried to network, but the ball went out of little.
At 5 'the Italian bench jumped up after a battle in midfield between Wolfgang Dremmler and Francesco Graziani. Graziani fell to the ground after a vigorous shove from the robust German and had the misfortune to land on the right shoulder. The Brazilian referee Arnaldo Coelho motioned not to interrupt the game and West Germany baste action of thrust on the left, while the Italian striker was still prone on the halfway line, in a mask of pain. At the end
Graziani was able to rise to its feet and continue to toil for another couple of minutes, but was in obvious difficulty and was quickly replaced by Alessandro Altobelli.
on a siding
After the furious start the course of the game settled down and Germany tried entering the decisive thrust to the right a couple of times. But Rummenigge Littbarski and were unable to overcome the Italian defense which deploys the eighteen year old Giuseppe Bergomi.
Il fischio finale del primo time gave Italy coach Enzo Bearzot and his German counterpart Jupp Derwall fifteen minutes to put up their tactics for the remainder of the race.
Showdown
The second half opened with Rummenigge and Kaltz who tried to make dynamic maneuvering German looking deep into the Italian midfield and increasing the pace offensively. All this took only a harmless free-kick from twenty yards, then the Italian midfield gradually taken control of the game. Jupp Derwall's men tried to tackle the technical superiority of the opponents with physical force, but the Azzurri could not be blocked so easily. Starting from the back, thank you, in particular, the elegant Scirea, the precise patterns of play Italian increasingly concrete increasingly a growing danger for the German defense.
At 57 ', while the game was taking a turn more and more confused, Accounts Stielike landed on the left. The German defense failed to adequately reject the following free kick and Conti took over the ball thirty yards from goal. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge
playmaker Roman hooked from behind and the referee awarded another penalty kick. While the Germans were still contesting the decision, Marco Tardelli quickly tapped free-kick and Claudio Gentile found himself free on the right. Nice cross from the top of the penalty and, with Alessandro Altobelli unable to reach the ball, it was time for Paul Smith to confirm his reputation as one of the best Italian strikers of all time. At the right place at the right time, Smith put the ball into the net bringing Italy cover 1-0. Once again, the Germans complained, this time for offside but the goal remained valid and Italy took the lead.
The Germans open
Now Germany was forced to attack to keep alive the chance of winning. Stielike pushed forward the team, joining more and more often to attack actions of his companions. But even if Fischer, Rummenigge and Littbarski trying to create spaces around the Italian area, la difesa resse bene e riuscì a vanificare i tentativi dei tedeschi.
A metà strada si spostò a destra, dove Altobelli joined him in the race and, advancing to the edge of the penalty, he managed to deceive Briegel with a clear turnaround in the body. Rossi then picked up the ball and, after looking to the right, addressed a low cross towards the same Scirea that was approaching. The free blue decided not to shoot, preferring to return the ball to Rossi, who had penetrated undisturbed inside the penalty area in Germany. Rossi took a short pass that was picked up again by Scirea, allowing Marco Tardelli to arrive in a central position about fifteen feet from the door. As he fell, Tardelli was able to put the ball in the corner to his right, catching Toni Schumacher and doubling that in modo il vantaggio dell'Italia.
La Germania needed a goal to get back into the game, but the actions of the German attack were becoming increasingly desperate and disorganized. The highest cross in the penalty area and sent long balls forward without ideas were not enough to bring into play the two-time world champion in that circumstance.
Then, 81 ', Italy erased any doubt of the outcome of the match. Bruno Conti departed from his own half towards the door in Germany. Defense-biased forward, Conti had much time as possible available to choose Alessandro Altobelli who had managed to break free from his marker at the level of the penalty spot. Schumacher came out of the goal, but Altobelli found the right gate, scoring for the third time in favor of men Bearzot. The match was virtually over, with nine minutes from Italy wins its third FIFA World Cup.
The final score was 3-1, with a consolation goal for West Germany by Paul Breitner scored seven minutes from time. The reaction after the goal Breitner said the long-German mood in the court: no celebration or even a smile, just look resigned to a man who knew his team had never had a chance to threaten the supremacy of opponents.
Perhaps the extraordinary semi-final against France had cost too much energy to the German national team. Or maybe that was just evening Italy troppo forte.
